Camilla Faris in creating healthy boundaries

Camilla Faris in creating healthy boundaries

Meet Camilla a proud Sabahan, who think being in touch with our emotions is not a weakness, but it's a superpower.

Rapid Fire: Who are you and what do you do?

Hi! I’m Camilla. I’m the founder & creative director of ANTING (@antingbycamilla), a jewellery brand focusing on minimal, everyday pieces for women to feel their best selves in – every single day! Recently I’ve also dabbled into content creation, particularly in fashion, beauty & lifestyle.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

The first thing I do when I wake up is to check the weather outside. My bed is right beside my window & within reach so I can do this with one eye closed even. Haha! There’s something about sunny days that make me want to jump right out of bed.

What are you most passionate about?

Recently I’ve been honing in on my interest in visual storytelling and have been experimenting in the form of photos & videos, which I often share on my personal Instagram. It’s amazing how visuals alone can convey emotions, narrative, ideas & impactful messages. I discover so many talented creators on a daily & they keep me inspired!

What do you usually do to stimulate your creative juice?

For me, I find that when I intentionally take time out of my day to slow down, I find countless pockets of inspiration around me - and most often in the “little”, mundane things.

Mindfulness & being more present at the moment allows you to see and not just look. I believe that beauty exists everywhere, it just takes the right eyes & headspace to discover them.

Fun fact: one of my existing jewellery collection’s colour palettes was inspired by the coincidental arrangement of clothes hangers while I was airing my laundry!

What part of you that you are most proud of?

My go-getter personality, which I think I take after my mom. We’re both strong-willed, resilient & very much connected to our gut-instincts, which pushes us forward even when sometimes held back by hurdles.

What are some of the positive changes that you try to implement this year?

One thing that I’m looking forward to improve on this year is work-life balance. Running ANTING singlehandedly (for the most part) means having to work round the clock and I oftentimes experience severe burnout.

I’m slowly learning to create healthy boundaries between work and all the other things that happen outside of that.  It’s okay to rest. I know my mental & physical health will thank me!

What or who is your biggest influence?

My biggest influence is my family. My dad has always taught me to trust my gut instincts. I strive to be as kind & attentive as my mom. I admire my brother’s courage & passion. My sister proves to me time and time again that hard work & dedication pays off.

If your life is a song, what would it be and why?

It’s a song that makes me reflect on my teenage years – a period of my life that I felt the most emotional growing pains. Trying to navigate unfamiliar emotional & physical changes, and all. I sometimes wish that I could speak to the younger version of myself and assure her that she’ll be okay :)

What do you want to see more of in the world?

Genuine kindness, the type that feels warm & fuzzy. Everyone is going through something that we know nothing about - never underestimate what a kind gesture, though what may seem like a small one, can positively affect a person.
