“Learn to love yourself, know your worth. When you really love yourself and know your worth, whatever people say about you won’t affect you and you'll live a happier life.”
Meet the Hani behind "Hani". Read on to get to know Hani better and how she inspired one of our Eid Girl.
Hi. Can you share a little bit about yourself?
Hi. My name is Hani Shahira. People call me Hani. At home people call me Shasha. I studied at University Malaya, I majored in Chemistry. I’m currently a stay at home, full-time mom. I was with Whimsigirl, for about 3 years before this. Just recently, my husband and I decided to take things slow. We decided to focus on the kids for the time being.
So I’m a mom of two with another on it’s way. I love spending time with my kids. I love doing activities with them, taking them to the park. I love to do experiments and arts & crafts with them.
How would your best friend describe you in 3 words?
I would say friendly, funny kot and maybe caring lah kot. I hope so lah.
Which lady/girl inspires you the most?
It would be my mom mainly because while growing up, she has never laid a finger on us. Sometimes she would raise her voice at us but that’s normal. I don’t know how she does it but she does it with so much grace. She is not stern but somehow we respect her. She doesn’t even have to marah us to get us to do something. We get it done because we don’t want to upset her and she’s been through alot.
Despite all that, she is always very caring, loving and she always puts others first before her own needs. She has so many friends who would go to her whenever they need help with things because she is ever so willing to help people. She is so friendly. She is very warm to everyone. She worked until she retired. She is my idol. She is my world.
What does it mean to be comfortable in your own skin?
To me, it would be being comfortable with yourself. Not having to prove yourself every time. You know you’re good enough but you don’t stop there, you always try to be better. Being comfortable in my own skin also means that I don’t have to try so hard to be someone else. You can look up to others who are better than you but you don’t have to obsess about it. Just be the best version of you.
If you could share a message to all the everyday girls out there, what would it be
Growing up, I had my fair share of people giving me a tough time and making remarks of how skinny I was when I was in school, that bothered me. I was about 10 or 11-years-old, going through puberty, where your physique really mattered. It brought me down. People used to say, “Oh my god you’re so kurus macam papan.” or “Wind kalau blow sikit you will jatuh.” Things like that really affected me. When I got older and hopefully wiser, I felt like those things shouldn’t even matter. Because I’m a mom now, I want to educate my kids that the things they say can affect other people’s feelings even if it’s little remarks that they think are harmless, sometimes it can really affect someone in the long run.
So to the everyday girls out there, I’d like to say learn to love yourself, know your worth. When you really love yourself and know your worth, whatever people say about you won’t affect you and you will live a happier life.
