Our 10 Picks of the Best Christmas Songs

Our 10 Picks of the Best Christmas Songs

We want to wish those who are celebrating a very merry Christmas and happy holidays! South East Asia may be far from looking festive with our lack of winter and random snowball fights but it will begin to look a lot like Christmas with our choices of the best Christmas songs (from originals to covers) to play while you decorate the house, entertain guests and of course, unwrap your presents.

  1. All I Want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey

Co-written and performed by the diva herself, only Mariah Carey could give us a timeless R&B pop anthem for the holidays that works both as a catchy track to sing with girlfriends during a road trip or the heart-break song for karaoke sessions after Christmas dinner.

  1. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas by Michael Buble

First introduced by actor, Judy Garland in the film, ‘Meet Me in St. Louis’, this tune has went through many renditions from Frank Sinatra to Sam Smith though we personally kept going back to Michael Buble’s version. Can you blame us when his deep and charismatic voice is the perfect Christmas gift?

  1. Baby It’s Cold Outside by She & Him

A classic that requires a cute duet plus synchronized choreography if we want to go all out for Christmas! It begins innocently with remarks about the weather then the band, She & Him continues with witty banter that pushes and pulls at the singers wanting to be together or not complete with a twist of indie pop and swing music.

  1. Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow by Frank Sinatra

The smooth jazzy vocals of Sinatra may be sophisticated but that doesn’t stop him from releasing a jiggle-like track about wanting the snow to come down so he could get a warm hug from a special person. Three times of calling for the snow to fall do make it charming!

  1. It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year by Kylie Minogue

It’s definitely a delightful time when it comes to celebrating togetherness and generosity and even though this tune have been  in the Christmas vault for decades, we love Kylie Minogue’s style of merging her dance-pop vibes with the traditional carol choirs. This one is an absolute bop!

  1. Jingle Bell Rock by The Vamps

Probably made famous again from the iconic Winter Talent Show scene in the movie, ‘Mean Girls’, this is a more pop rock take on the song by British band, The Vamps. It’s a fun track filled with repeated tongue twisting lyrics (try saying, “Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet” fast) and a great segue way to getting everyone at the party to dance and prance.

  1. Wonderful Christmastime by The Shins

Don’t roll your eyes just yet if you are tired of mainstream pop Christmas music when you’re a manic pixie dream girl at heart because we got one of the best indie rock bands in the industry doing a cover of Paul McCartney’s ‘Wonderful Christmastime’. Their version is upbeat with their trademark of electric guitars and background vocals that sounds as if it could be the soundtrack to any Wes Anderson film.

  1. Blue Christmas by The Lumineers

From the melancholic (yet sexy) voice of Elvis Presley comes a more sorrowful interpretation from folk rock band, The Lumineers that takes the song to a level of desperation with a lone acoustic guitar and the strained and raspy singing of the two vocalists. There’s nothing quite like associating lonesomeness with such a gloomy colour.

  1. Joy To The World by Nat King Cole

There is just something about revisiting the old classics especially with one that is jolly and magnificently abundant with traditional musical instruments like how these festive songs should have been recorded with. Nat King Cole brings his allure to ‘Joy To The World’ thus, making him in our top list!

  1. Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town by The Jackson 5

Only the Jackson family could change the game when it comes to reinventing past tracks and giving their own brand of late 60’s pop to Bing Crosby’s own Christmas jingle. We had to choose hard between Michael Buble’s jazz and traditional pop cover and this one but honestly, who could deny the talented group that inspires the rise of the King of Pop?

We hope you’ll enjoy our curated list of our favourite Christmas tunes and again, we wish you a safe celebration and a merry Christmas from the Whimsigirl team . Still wondering what to wear for the endless Christmas parties? Head on over to our online store for your holiday suit!
